The C-Me Mentoring Trust and The Fono formed a joint initiative in late 2014 with the establishment of the Oceania Career Academy. The partnership completes the circle of Whanau Ora based services delivered by The Fono, which aim to build the capability and capacity of Pacific families.
The Fono provides OCA's corporate services including Financial, Human Resources, Marketing and Information Technology, as well as providing wrap-around health and social support services to students and their families involved with the Trades at Schools Programme.
Family-centred services delivered by The Fono include things such as health checks, housing support, parenting programmes, physical activity and nutrition, drug-testing, dental services, youth counselling and early childhood education.
OCA is part of the Southern Initiative, a consortium of partners involving Auckland City Council, Industry Employees such as Hawkins, Stevensons, McConnell Dowell and Industry Training Organisations.
Family-centred services delivered by The Fono include things such as health checks, housing support, parenting programmes, physical activity and nutrition, drug-testing, dental services, youth counselling and early childhood education.
OCA is involved in the Auckland Maori and Pasifika Trades Initiative (AMPTI), a programme enabling more Maori and Pasifika learners, aged 18-34, to obtain meaningful trade apprenticeships and qualifications.
Te Kura is a distance education provider offering personalised learning programmes to students from early childhood to Year 13. OCA works in partnership with Te Kura to provide career pathways in trades to their interested students.
Work and Income provides financial assistance and employment services throughout New Zealand. OCA works with WINZ to offer trades training and connections with industry to their networks.
We work with the Building and Construction ITO to develop our Pacific trades workforce, coordinate work experience and organise training plans. BCITO is the largest provider of construction trade apprenticeships in New Zealand. They are appointed by the government to develop and implement industry qualifications for the building and construction sector.
Competenz is a multi-sector Industry Training Organisation (ITO) that designs and manages technical and business qualifications to make sure the New Zealand workforce is highly skilled. Every year, they work with over 3,500 businesses in 37 industries, helping over 20,000 people develop their skills on the job. OCA works with Competenz to develop our Pacific trades workforce, coordinate work experience and organise training plans.
We work with polytechnics and tertiary providers to coordinate the transition from trades training at OCA into higher education. We communicate and coordinate student interest and needs with provider courses and school holiday programmes.
We have an arrangement with 22 Auckland secondary schools to deliver NCEA Levels 1 and 2 Building and Construction and Mechanical Engineering courses.
