OCA offers two trades training programmes. Trades at School is for Year 12 and 13 Secondary Students while the OCA Foundation Programme is for youth who are Not in Education Employment or Training. Both programmes start with trades training at NCEA levels 1 and 2, and can lead on to tertiary training at NCEA levels 3 and 4, apprenticeships or jobs.
While studying a trade at OCA, students are mentored and supported throughout. OCA believes in walking alongside students and empowering them to succeed. Students receive help in an innovative and positive way to cross the bridge between school or unemployment into trade careers. Key life values and skills we focus on include work ethic, team building, leadership training, financial literacy, business dynamics, personal development and drug and alcohol awareness.
Basic construction skills and knowledge applied on a real building project.
This Level 2 course provides a pathway for students to enter into a range of trade-related occupations. It focuses on giving students practical skills for construction as they build a house on-site at OCA.
Basic mechanical engineering skills for machinery and engineering apprenticeships.
This Level 2 course provides students with the basic skills and knowledge required to succeed in the mechanical engineering or fabrication industries. This programme looks at all of the areas of engineering and provides the entry skills for an apprenticeship in the engineering sector.
The OCA Foundation Programme is a three month introductory programme for youths who are not in education, employment or training.
We offer trades training at the OCA training centre and credits earned can be applied to either the National Certificate in Building and Construction (Level 2) or the National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Level 2).
