Resources For Teachers

Looking for ways to teach your students about the importance of fruits and vegetables?

By the time children are in school, they might be interested in choosing some food themselves. Unfortunately, they can often get all sorts of 'unhealthy' food messages from friends and TV. So this is a great time to teach them which foods are healthy and which aren't.

Proper nutrition in childhood can reinforce lifelong eating habits that contribute to children's overall wellbeing and help them to grow up to their full potential and a healthy life. Fruits and vegetables play an important role in this, as the compounds in fresh fruit and vegetables help protect the body against all kinds of diseases, including cancer.

We have also come up with some fun ways to integrate this important message about good nutrition into a variety of school subjects and get students excited about eating fruits and vegetables. We hope the ideas presented here will help you formulate lesson plans to suit each level of student according to the New Zealand Curriculum.
